A heart has no bones, you say, so it won’t break. But the purpose of loving is the pounding it takes.
Josh Ritter (via wrists)

There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.
Leonard Cohen (via dowhatyourbodywants)

mentalmystic:

“And once you asked me well what’s my biggest fear
That things would always remain so unclear
That one day I’d wake up all alone
With a big family and emptiness deep in my bones
That I would be so blinded, turn a deaf ear
And that my fake laugh would suddenly sound sincere”

When everything is lonely I can be my own best friend
I get a coffee and the paper; have my own conversations
With the sidewalk and the pigeons and my window reflection
The mask I polish in the evening, by the morning looks like shit.

And I know you have a heavy heart; I can feel it when we kiss
So many men stronger than me have thrown their backs out trying to lift it
But me I’m not a gamble you can count on me to split
The love I sell you in the evening, by the morning won’t exist.

hey, when she sings
when she sings
when she sings like she runs
moves like she runs
hey, when she moves
when she moves
when she moves like she runs
moves like she runs
hey, there there’s such tender wolves ‘round town tonight
‘round the town tonight
hey, there there’s such tender wolves ‘round town tonight
‘round the town tonight

Round Here - Counting Crows

“She says she’s tired of life

She must be tired of something”

is one of my all time favorite lyrics.

(via lifewasted)

My old man
He’s a singer in the park
He’s a walker in the rain
He’s a dancer in the dark
We don’t need no piece of paper
From the city hall
Keeping us tied and true
My old man
Keeping away my blues

…it’s a Joni Mitchell kind of morning.

As much as I crave new Mumford & Son I’m pleasantly stunned at how much leverage I’m still getting out of Sigh No More.  Every so often I’ll hear a song I’ve heard dozens and dozens of times before but it’ll sound different and new.  This morning it happened with White Blank Page.

but don’t you come here and say i didn’t warn you
about the way your world can alter
and oh how you try to command it all still
every single time it all shifts one way or the other

and i’m a goddamn coward, but then again so are you
and the lion’s roar, the lion’s roar
has me evading and hollering for you
and i never really knew what to do

Hideaway Well they’ll seat us in the sun By the way Know you’ve always been the one You’ll ask your reasons why What once was yours is mine My baby’s gone

Hideaway
Well they’ll seat us in the sun
By the way
Know you’ve always been the one

You’ll ask your reasons why
What once was yours is mine
My baby’s gone

You’ve made it through the direst of straits alright,
Can you help it if plain love now seems less interesting?
You haven’t changed an ounce in my eyes,
And I cannot lecture you,

And does anything I say seem relevant at all?
You’ve been at the helm since you were just five,
While I cannot claim to be more than a passenger,

But, you’ve won one too many fights,
Wearing all of your clothes at the same time,
Let the good times end tonight,
Oh girl, sail her, don’t sink her,
This time,

Just a moment or two from now,
Not a mind will retain even a trace,
Of the thoughts that I struggled to tell
And how our stack of cards just fell,

So settle this once and for all,
The light no longer shows the cracks around my door,
And I have no lantern to light your way home tonight,

Girl Sailor by The Shins

This is one of those songs that remind me of specific moments in time that are more left in the past than I like to think and of people that I miss and people that don’t even exist.
